The company began in 1885 to take detailed records of each clock that leaves the factory that includes caliber, materials and boxes. Subsequently, these records would include reference, distribution date and dealer. The owner can obtain, if the watch is more than 10 years old, accurate information about his watch. The company has something called post-sale department where it is possible to repair or make change no matter the time to which the watch belongs.
In 1885 IWC makes a mechanical digital clock and in 1888 the factory is electrified. In 1903 he adopted the motto of "Probus Scafusia", which means "well done in Schaffhausen". Also towards that time it begins to realize smaller calibers, that would be destined to wristwatches for the German navy and the English navy.
In 1935, the Mark IX model is released, its first aviator watch that would start a saga that would go to the current Mark XVI. IWC, together with A. Lange & Söhne, Stowa, Laco and Wempe would be one of the 5 signatures that would make the "B-Uhr" or observer watches for pilots of the German Luftwaffe in World War II.
IWC participated in the creation of Beta 21, the first Swiss quartz watch, in 1969. However, like the entire Swiss watch industry, IWC would go into crisis in the 1970s, when Japanese watches and electronic digital conquered the market.
In 1955 the firm made its first automatic loading mechanism, which would mount it in the new Ingenieur model. From this watch would derive the Aquatimer series in 1967. In 1991, together with Jaeger-LeCoultre and A. Lange & Söhne form a group, LMH, based in Schaffhausen and 1,440 employees. The group was acquired for 2.8 billion Swiss francs in 2000 by the Richemont group.
